When I first moved to London the only seasonal open air ice rink that I was aware of was the circular one near Liverpool Street Station – which was lovely to see. Then Ticketmaster invited our box office to a new rink at Somerset House. It was a great evening after work – a beautiful setting, flaming torches, classical music, a bar serving hot chocolate and alcohol, fantastic!
Since that time, the seasonal rinks seem to be springing up everywhere – and I thought I would do a series of linocuts of them. I’m starting with a smallish size – 20×25 cm, and I’m going to include a couple of rinks outside London, as well. Here is the delightful ice rink in front of Brighton Royal Pavilion. It will be a colour print, but I thought I’d print a black copy before I start cutting for the second colour.
