Linocut of Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex

I’ve just started an A3-size colour linocut of Herstmonceux Castle here in East Sussex. The picture above shows where I am at the moment – using three blocks – black, red, and blue. I may add a green block, or use the blue block twice.

None of the blocks are finished yet – but I wanted to check how they are working together before I did too much more cutting away. More of the black foreground will be removed to show the moat and foliage, the ivy on the castle wall will have some colour beneath it, and there will be more texture on the red block – plus the crenelations at the top need to be cut out properly.

I think the dark foreground is quite strong, though, so am tempted to keep more of that than originally planned.
