Description
My large colour linocut of beach donkeys at Weston-super-Mare reproduced as a greetings card.
Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, like many British seaside towns, has had beach donkeys since the Victorian era. Weston has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, so that huge sandy beach is great for donkey rides, chariots, sand castle and sand-yachting – but the tide comes in super fast and does catch some people out!
The original linocut was produced using the reduction technique, which means that only one lino block was used. It was successively cut away to print each additional colour. By the end, the lino block has been practically all carved away and no more prints can be made.
Note: on screen colours may vary depending on screen calibration.
