Description
Hastings in East Sussex has two Victorian/Edwardian funicular railways. Both are still running, and the card shows a linocut image of the view from the top of one of them – the East Hill Lift.
A great card for those that love the funiculars of Hastings or love linocut art.
I worked on the Lifts for a time and this is the viewpoint of the person operating the lift at the top. The artwork shows the black net huts and harbour arm below. The East Hill Lift is the steepest funicular in the country and takes visitors up from the Old Town end of the beach (where the fishing fleet is) to the top of East Hill where the Hastings Country Park offers acres of walks along the clifftops and through dingly dell woods to the village of Fairlight around the coast.
You can also see the East Hill Lift on my linocut and card of Rock-a-Nore beach.
