Description
The scene on this card is taken from my original linocut of Southwold Lighthouse. It peeks out from amongst the houses in the Suffolk town.
A great card for anyone who loves Southwold, or admires the many beautiful lighthouses around the country. It would also look good framed!
Built in 1887, the lighthouse is still operational and provides a waymark for vessels navigating the east coast and guides vessels making for Southwold Harbour.
Southwold Lighthouse is still looked after by the organisation that built it, Trinity House. This is an ancient charity dating back to 1514 which is dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers. Most of the functioning lighthouses around our coastline still come under Trinity House’s auspices.
I hope to add more lovely lighthouses by and by – as they are inspiring subjects for prints and surprisingly varied.
Here’s another lovely seaside card to consider – “Beach Walk“.
