Description
The Stargazer’s Guide to Britain and Ireland is a beautiful illustrated decorative map of the British Isles for the wall of all astronomers or stargazers – an Astronomy Map of the British Isles.
It features many sites linked to astronomy and space – observatories, telescopes, planetariums, science and space museums, dark skies and even a couple of stargazing pubs! I’ve also included some annual stargazing festivals.
There are an amazing number of places to visit, and I’ve also included some local observatories which often have open evenings, etc. I really enjoyed the research for this map and finding out about some of the beautiful older observatories as well as some new modern astronomical observatories that I was previously unaware of. The National Space Centre in Leicester which opened in 2001 is also featured, as well as the Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank which started in 2016 and is absolutely brilliant.
I was also fascinated to read about the Spaceguard Centre in Wales, which looks out for near Earth objects – ie. asteroids, etc. that might impact the Earth!
I discovered two country pubs at either end of England that make good use of their dark skies by offering Stargazing events. One has its own planetarium and the other has an observatory.
Finally, I couldn’t resist including the place where you are most likely to see a UFO in Britain …
This astronomy map of the British Isles is a hand signed art print or poster from my original illustration. It is available in A3 or A2 sizes, which are standard sizes and easy to mount and frame.
There is a white border around the image to allow for the signature. Some photos show how lovely the print will look framed, but please note that the print is sold unframed and without a mount.
Prints will be sent by Royal Mail. A3 prints are presented in a cello bag with a cardboard back for protection or onward delivery. International deliveries may be sent in a tube. A2 prints will be sent via Royal Mail in a tube.
