Roman Baths in the Snow shows the city of Bath’s famous Roman bathing complex which was built to take advantage of Bath’s natural hot springs. This is a Christmas or winter scene showing gentle snowfall onto the steamy waters.
Good as a Christmas card for anyone who lives in or loves Bath, Somerset!
The hot springs were rediscovered by Georgian society and Bath became a famous spa town. It attracted the top echelons of British society to spend a “season” at the resort mixing with their peers and showing off their wealth and good taste. Developers built fine villas and elegant streets to attract the most well-heeled residents and visitors. This has left Bath a world-famous legacy of beautiful architecture created from the golden local limestone.
The Georgians, and then the Victorians, adapted what remained of the Roman Baths for visitors to enjoy. Further developments and archaeology has taken place since – and visitors can now enjoy an extensive and fascinating tour of this slightly supernatural-feeling place.
