I worked at the Victoria Palace Theatre for many years and know the building well and have sketched it many times. I left before the musical Hamilton started, when the theatre was closed for a prolonged period for an extensive re-fit. I might be controversial and say that it is one of the few attractive buildings left in Victoria Street! We used to have a theatre cat, so perhaps I will do a linocut of the theatre featuring her sometime …

The theatre was built by famed theatre architect Frank Matcham. His good designs meant that audiences weren’t stuck trying to peer around pillars in the stalls and circle.

Let’s hope we can all get back to enjoying theatre again soon!

A quality blank greetings card is available of this original linocut.
