Description

Wood Mouse and Wild Garlic is a colour linocut relief print inspired by the spring flowers and wildlife in Hastings Country Park, near my house on the south coast of England.

Wood Mouse and Wild Garlic is a hand-pulled linocut in oil-based inks in an small edition of 50. The image size is just under A4 size (28cm by 18m). It is printed on acid-free paper and signed by me. The paper is slightly larger than the image to enable you to frame the image with a standard-sized mount.

Each print in the edition is inked up and pressed individually, resulting in some slight differences between each print – making each one a unique work of art.

I send smaller prints wrapped in cellophane in a reinforced envelope or parcel. Larger prints or international deliveries may be sent rolled in a tube with protective tissue.

I based this print on the wonderful display of wild garlic flowers that can be seen in spring on the steep valleys under the trees in Hastings Country Park in East Sussex. The area has much ancient ‘ghyll’ woodland where steep-banked streams offer a sheltered and damp climate for ferns and other plants. In fact, Hastings Country Park was a favoured destination with Victorian holidaymakers – especially fern collectors. Ferns were a big thing in the Victorian era!
