Kent Illustrated Map: Signed Poster print of attractions and places A2, A3 or A4
The Kent Illustrated Map is a stunning ornamental map poster of the county by Fiona Horan. It shows many of the most-loved places and attractions of this beautiful part of Britain, known as the “garden of England.”
This map is full of interest for residents of Kent and visitors alike! Ideal wall decor for a guest house, holiday home, hotel, club, caravan or even a well-appointed beach hut!
Overview
Kent is known as “the garden of England” due to its fruit trees, hazelnuts and hop fields. Though not as extensive as they once were (when the working classes of London used to take a hop-picking “holiday” in the countryside every summer), the orchards and hop fields still exist, as well as some newer vineyards. Many of the old oasthouses (used in the hop brewing industry) are now distinctive and desirable residences – so I have included a few on the map, as well as some hops, beer, and Faversham’s Hop Festival!
Another feature that has shaped Kent’s history is its position only a few miles from the coast of continental Europe. Castles, ports, ferries, shipyards and spitfires are part of this legacy. It is also the seat of England’s premier religious leader – the Archbishop of Canterbury, a centre of pilgrimage and power for more than a thousand years.

Landmarks of Kent
I enjoyed planning and doing the drawings for the illustrated map of Kent. Illustrations include Canterbury Cathedral, Hever Castle, Sissinghurst Garden, Rochester Castle, Chartwell, Chatham Dockyard, Dover Castle, Knole, Leeds Castle, Ightham Mote, Scotney Castle, the white cliffs of Dover, Dreamland amusement park, Brands Hatch, several steam railways, the funicular Leas Lift in Folkestone, Pocahontas’ statue, several lighthouses, a windmill, the weird Maunsell Sea Forts and many more! Plus the county flag (I love the idea of county flags).
As you can see, Kent has a great many castles. If you like castles, you may also be interested in my illustrated map of the Castles of Britain and Ireland.
